Hakalau National Wildlife Refuge

Established in 1985, Hakalau National Wildlife Refuge supports a diversity of native birds and plants equaled by few other areas in Hawaii. Located on the side of Mauna Kea, Hakalau is home to many birds and old growth Ohia and Koa trees. Visitors to Hakalau require special reservations and access is by 4x4 vehicles.
