The hale ‘Ohana is the first “Hawaii-style” cottage you encounter as you drive into the red cinder driveway, nestled in front of a fruit orchard of lychee, mango, avocado and citrus.
Hale ‘Ohana is frequently reserved for long-term vacationers because it gives plenty of room, feeling like a full house, yet at a very affordable rate. The front lanai is perfect for morning coffee or evening relaxing after a “hard” day taking in the sights and experiencing Hawaii as Hawaiians do (not like the frenzied pace of tourists who frequent the west side). The kitchen is large and complete so you can enjoy unhurried meals “at home.”
There’s a picnic box so you can take provisions with you as you use our copyrighted “Deep Hawaii Adventures” book to explore and enjoy. There’s boogie boards and snorkel gear so you can enjoy Richardson’s Beach with its fish, turtles and coral, or Kapoho Tide pools – a huge premier snorkeling area that is totally protected from the ocean waves. And, on a day-long adventure, take your boards to Hapuna Beach where, especially during the winter months, you can get rides that last and last – hundreds of feet – in aerated warm waters.
Families with kids love this hale because the kids (4-5) can sleep in the den on a futon and blow-up mattress, while mom and dad enjoy a separate and private bedroom down the hall. And outside, there’s plenty of room to run and play.
While the property is secluded and safe, there’s gas, a restaurant, and a general store seven minutes away; fifteen minutes and you’re into Pahoa or Keaau; 20-30 minutes into Hilo. For sure, you’re in the country, but with convenience.
It is difficult to describe what it “feels” like to be here; the calming effect of a tropical oasis, huge puffy clouds, impossibly blue skies and bright sun; at night the stars are all over. Birds sing, tiny frogs serenade and palm fronds add their music as the trade winds softly blow, keeping it cool and fresh. You’ll have to leave much sooner than you’d like, but you’ll have wonderful memories to remind you of your all-too-brief stay.
