Kalapana/Seaview

You enter the property driveway through openings in the foliage just enough to get through.  In fact you’d pass right by the hale if you didn’t know it existed. Once parked inside, you see the 1,000 acre forest preserve trees behind the building, and the palm trees and bushes blocking the outside road. Then you approach the upstairs apartment, passing a screened-in porch, and proceed up the stairs – well aware of the forest beginning just ten feet away, giving a feeling of remoteness – yet also knowledgeable that there’s nothing out there to hurt you; and you’re only 25 minutes to Pahoa town and civilization.

Up the stairs, and there’s a little seating area where you’ll enjoy a drink as you absorb the serenity of this forested place, feeling like you’re one with nature (all the more so if you use the outside shower downstairs). Then, in you go, greeted by a long cleanly groomed room consisting of the kitchen and living room area.  You explore more, and there’s an intimate dining room with oriental motifs behind sliding doors, and the bedroom has a cozy built-in queen bed.  “This place feels so open,” you’ll exclaim, and then you see why – no windows – only screens.  It feels like you’re in a tree house, camping, but inside, snug, with lights and everything, including a 90-year old antique stove! You will proclaim, as all others have: “Pictures don’t do this justice!”  And that’s because it’s not just the apartment, it’s everything else that makes it so special.

So come away for a while, as you also enjoy the many pleasures of Hawaii, many of which are in our copyrighted “Deep Hawaii Adventures” book.

Kalapana/Seaview

Actually, calling it a studio is a bit misleading, because it has a bedroom separated from the living room that has two queen futons.  But, we call it a studio because it doesn’t have a stove.  But, that’s no problem, there is a microwave, slow cooker, rice cooker and efficient double hot plate that will cook all the meals you want, and then there is a barbecue outside, which we’re sure you’ll want to make good use of.

Anyway, we give you good directions, and have a sign outside, so you don’t drive right past this private place. You park next to a satellite dish, and walk to the side of the building, a little raised platform of a lanai, and enter through sliding glass doors into the living room.  You’re surprised by the size of the place.  Six people could stay here comfortably. Soon you discover that there’s no shower inside!  It’s outside!  Talk about being one with nature – facing 1,000 acres of a forest preserve as you shower while standing on smooth volcanic flat rocks – well – you could draw the curtain and not see the forest view.

Each day you take our copyrighted “Deep Hawaii Adventures” book, also taking along portable chairs, boogie boards, picnic box, snorkel gear there for you, and head out for surprise after surprise, including Kehena black sand beach three minutes away; clothing optional. So much to do and see, it’s hard to take out time just to sit and enjoy the forest trees and orchids frequently blooming.

So, this is a place for the young at heart, the more adventuresome, looking for the out-of-the-way place that feels like you are in the wilderness, yet there are other houses around this neighborhood, and you’re only 25 minutes into Pahoa town, but above all - - the apartment is – CLEAN!
